Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program

The PSLF Program was established by Congress in 2007 to allow eligible borrowers to qualify for forgiveness of the remaining balance of their William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan (Direct Loan) Program student loans after they have served full-time at a public service organization for at least 10 years, while making 120 qualifying payments. Under this program, CSU employees may qualify for forgiveness of the remaining balance due to their Direct Loan Program loans if they meet the criteria of the program. More information about the PSLF Program may be obtained through Federal Student Aid, a site maintained by the U.S. Department of Education.

The Payroll Office is able to complete Section 3 and 4 of the Employment Certification form to verify employment is with a public service organization. It is the responsibility of the PSLF applicant to submit all eligible paperwork to the U.S. Department of Education in order to qualify for the PSLF Program. The U.S. Department of Education, not the CSU, reviews the applications and makes the determination of eligibility for the PSLF Program.

Employment Certification forms, should be mailed in hard copy to the Payroll and Benefits Office at 1801 E. Cotati Avenue, Rohnert Park, CA, 94928, for employment authorization. Completed forms will be returned to the employee.
