Sonoma State University is excited to make LinkedIn Learning available to our entire campus community as a professional development resource!

LinkedIn Learning, regarded as the premier online professional development platform, provides high-quality, on-demand courses designed to build practical, job-relevant skills. Sonoma State students, staff, faculty and managers have access to more than 24,000 online courses and learning resources to support growth - whether strengthening core competencies, preparing for new responsibilities, exploring emerging technologies, or pursuing a professional goal.

To access LinkedIn Learning, follow the instructions provided in the activation email sent directly from LinkedIn Learning. All active staff, faculty, and students will receive an email invitation when the initiative is launched in March 2026. Going forward, new employees will receive an email invitation upon hire inviting them to activate their account.

AI Coaching and Role Playing Use LinkedIn Learning’s generative AI tools for an individualized learning experience. Designed to provide personalized guidance and recommendations, it offers real-time support as you engage with learning content.

Certification, Exam Preparation, and Continuing Education Credits Earn a professional certificate from top brands on LinkedIn Learning or prepare for off-platform certifications and CEUs with prep courses and assessment options available for over 175 different credentials.

Frequently Asked Questions

All active Sonoma State staff, managers, faculty, and students have access to LinkedIn Learning. New employees will receive an email invitation to activate their account within their first week of employment. Employees can also visit https://www.linkedin.com/learning/, click "Sign In", and enter their Sonoma State email address to access the platform. 

As access is tied to an active affiliation with Sonoma State University, access may be temporarily impacted during university break periods for some employee groups depending on their appointment status. 

No, Linkedin Learning is an opt-in tool that Sonoma State is excited to offer at no-cost to all staff, faculty, and students. LinkedIn Learning can help you enhance your skills, learn new ones, and stay updated on the latest trends and best practices in your field. 

No, LinkedIn Learning is a separate platform from LinkedIn. LinkedIn will not share your personal information (such as job search history, connection requests, messages, etc) with Sonoma State, even if you choose to connect your LinkedIn profile to your LinkedIn Learning profile. Yes, simply go to the “Me” icon in the upper right corner of your LinkedIn Learning account, then go to “Settings” and click "Connect My Profile". Information on disconnecting and therefore separating your two accounts can be found here:  Disconnect your LinkedIn profile from your Learning license. 

No, your manager will not have access to view your learning profile, search history, or completed course details

A limited number of designated administrators who support the technical management of the LinkedIn Learning platform. Individual course activity is not shared.

LinkedIn Learning is a voluntary professional development resource intended to support individual growth. The skills and insights gained may be helpful in your current work or may reflect areas of personal interest. While professional development conversations may occur with your manager, completion of courses or learning pathways in LinkedIn Learning does not, on its own, impact job classification or compensation.

CSU Learn is the CSU’s official Learning Management System and is used to assign and track required compliance training. LinkedIn Learning is an optional professional development resource. Courses completed in LinkedIn Learning cannot be substituted for required training assigned through CSU Learn.

All formal compliance training is assigned through CSU Learn at the direction of the Chancellor Office, Human Resources, EHS and/or other campus partners. Courses taken through LinkedIn Learning cannot replace required training assigned in CSU Learn.
